LAKE HOUSE

Location: NORTHWOODS, WISCONSON

Our work takes us to some absolutely great locations around the world. This home located in The Great Northwoods of northern Wisconsin is on a wooded lot that overlooks a private lake. The clients wanted something interesting and unexpected for the region.  We were contracted to help them from blueprints to all aspects of the interior design.

With four distinct seasons, we wanted to enhance the color palette from nature.  Beautiful spring colors.  Lush summer greens.  Exuberant fall hues.  And serene snowy winter tones all come to life inside and out.  The exterior of the home has the look of a traditional 1920’s lake house.  Its color is a rich tobacco color accented with natural rover rock locally sourced from the area.

“The home looks beautiful all year round.”

The Results

For the interior, the clients requested a modern updated aesthetic. We selected light neutral toned limestone tile in a wheat and gray color. The stone selected was honed and slightly textured to give an organic feeling. We chose granites that blended with the limestone. The cabinets and trim are stained to bring in the wood tones from the forested lot in which the home is placed.

For the first and second floor we chose a rich dark walnut color that blended nicely with the antique mantle, antique doors and beams especially brought in from France. For the top floor and entire master bedroom we selected a lighter knotty pine color that blended with that fireplace mantle and a set of antique double doors. We did light neutral looking tones for the paint colors throughout and interesting wallpapers like the toile used in the master bedroom. We chose specialty lighting in main areas to showcase the client’s antique ship model and art collection.

Many of the furnishings were Arts and Crafts mixed with mid-century modern accented with Asian. New furniture pieces are combined with some curated antiques. However, the main public areas tend towards a more modern look. Large comfortable upholstery in the living room and screened in porch make for an inviting scene, perfect for entertaining and relaxing. We did a nice mix of tribal and ethnic accessories from around the world that add interest. Custom made carpeting and area rugs in bold patterns are used to create a compelling graphic effect. Window coverings remain minimal to ensure maximum light infusion and to enjoy the spectacular views on the wooded lot.

We also made certain to display the client’s existing collections in choice spots. To maintain a relaxed serene environment that has a spa-like quality we selected calming colors and comfortable furniture. We were very pleased with the interiors and felt it reflected the client’s personality. They loved the results and are sure to enjoy their home for years to come with friends and family.
